transfer experience

Today we had to transfer all our files from dreamweaver into the ftp file server. The only thing was that it was a bit different from the usual transfer. We didn't use filezilla like we always do. Instead, we transferred all our work directly from dreamweaver. It was the most annoying thing i have ever done. You had to transfer files and if there were many people transferring, then it would kick you out. You had to keep connecting and connecting and connecting. I think i clicked that connect button over 50 times before it actually worked.

How does flash improve your website?

Flash is one of the new programs that i learned how to use of this past week. I have to say that it was a bit difficult getting used to things. There were a lot of new elements to this program that we needed to learn but there were also many familiar aspects to it as well. There are familiar tools that we all know by now, like the move tool, text tool, and subselection tool. There are also new things. There are things called tweening, such as motion tween and shape tween.

Flash can help improve your website a lot because it can help u animate certain graphics very well. There was one project where we had to create our own animation by inserting our own pictures and moving them. You still have to add keyframes so that things happen when your animation plays. Its slightly different because to move images you add motion tween. Another cool thing you can do in flash is change one shape into another shape.

Lab 7 GIF animation (extra credit)

For this lab, it was my first time working in Adobe flash. We had to create our own animation with shapes. First, we had to make a little dot in the middle of the stage. We then take the selection tool and move the dot to the opposite side of your stage. then we insert a keyframe at frame 25. We click anywhere between the frame time of 1-25 and insert a motion tween. this makes the dot move from the starting point to the other side of the stage. Next, we create a new layer and name it square. As the name implies, we make a square using the rectangle tool. We go to frame 25 and move the square to he opposite side of the screen again. Not only do we do that but we also have to change the squares shape in some way. To do that, you take the subselection too land click the outer part of the square until u see a faint line. You can finally change the shape by dragging those sides. Once thats done we click anywhere between frame 1-25 and insert a shape tween. this is how it came out.

What was the goal of the website?:
The goal of this webpage was to show us her support for the charity Animals Foundation. It focuses on saving abandoned or abused animals.

What design principles and concepts did they use?:
She used a lot of pictures when it came to her work. There are even a couple cute and touching images that she added to her site to make it more impressive. The webpage also has a nice nature-like background. She also had her links going to each part of the webpage.

What design principles and concepts could they have used?
She could have used a bit more background color with her pages. She has the whole website intact but the background is a bit plain. Its just white.

Did all the pages work correctly?:
Yes, each link worked perfectly. I was able to view each part of the website with just a click. Each link led me to where it was supposed to go. One of her links also went to her online portfolio.


Did the web site have “good workflow” (links back and forth, consistency, etc)? How did they accomplish this?
Yes, because each link went to where it was supposed to go. If you clicked the icon with the words “why?” on them, it would go straight to the page where it explained why. The links even go outside her webpage into the official site of the Charity. She accomplished this by creating hotspots and typing in the web address. If the web address was typed correctly, it worked. (in this case, it did)

What were the web site strengths?:
Her websites greatest strength was definitely the pictures. The pictures shown are enough let you guess what this website was all about. Her pictures show dogs that are happy, been adopted, or injured. The links were also this website’s strength. They worked very well and correctly.

What were the web site weaknesses?:
Her site’s weakness was the information that was provided. Some of the information she used was a bit little. There wasn’t a lot of things that were written on the site. There was some good information but not as much as there could have been.

Extra point*
I chose to review this website because Glady’s is a good friend of mine and her work is very creative. The thing that drew me in was the animal page she made. I love animals. (especially dogs) This foundation for saving animals caught my interest very quickly.

Firefox and Safari

I opened up both firefox and safari to see the differences and similarities of my page on both browsers. So far, here are my results.

similarities:
Almost everything I see on my page, using both browsers, are very similar. The placing of all my links seem to all be in the same place. When I click on my labs, they seem to come out all the same to. Watching both of my pages on both browsers, it's very hard to find any differences at all.

differences:
As typed above, finding any differences on my page, using both browsers. The only thing i really notice is that on firefox, my page is slightly bigger. If you look very closely, i also notice that on firefox, some of my labs come out looking a tad bit brighter. Safari on the hand looks a little bit duller. It might just be me though but it's what I see.

How will technology help you in your future career?

For a long time i thought about what i really want to be. It hard to chose because there are so many choices out there. I have chosen my goal to be someone who works in video producting. I want to be able to create the special effects that you see in the movies. I want to be able to make my working career worth while. If i can do that, I know that i am well on my way to accomplish that goal.
Technology can help me a lot in my future career. If I actually become a video producer, i will be able to work with technology for as long as i wish. I took multimedia last year and it helped me understand the basic on how to make video. I was able to learn how to add certain effects to a picture. I learned how to edit a picture and well as distort its shape. I even had the chance to make a small add with music. Learning these types of things in school now will help me build my foundation to a strong career later. I know i can make it.
